AI Fluency Academy
DESIGN BRIEF R2 · DELIVERABLE 01
THE LEARNER JOURNEY · STORYBOARD

The full arc, from curious visitor to fluent practitioner.

Every state a learner moves through, the transition that connects each one, and the email that fires along the way. Self-paced learners leave and return, so the exits and re-entries are drawn, not assumed. Where a choice is still open, it is marked as a decision, with options to pick from.

First exposure. In ten seconds a curious visitor should grasp three things: this teaches a method, it works in any tool, and it is a school of practice, not a course catalog. The five-move spine does the explaining; the hero does the convincing.

LEARNER SEES
The method, the editorial tone, social proof, and two clear paths: browse or read the method.
ACTION → NEXT
Clicks into the free lesson, or browses programs. Most go straight to the free lesson.
DECISION APrograms catalog, how much to design for growth?

One foundational program at launch. The brief wants the catalog to feel deliberate, not under-stocked. How much do we build for future vertical tracks now?

A1
One program, held proudly
A single editorial feature. "One carefully made program" as the message. No grid scaffolding yet.
A2✓ CHOSEN
One feature + "in development"
Featured program plus dimmed "vertical tracks coming" placeholders. Signals a roadmap.
A3
Full grid now
Design the multi-track grid immediately. Risks looking sparse and contradicts "restraint."

Pre-purchase · logged out

The "give the first one away" instinct, and the highest-leverage conversion surface in the product. It is a complete reading experience, not a teaser, full prose, the Vague / Clear example, and the practice task. The enroll prompt sits at the natural end, never interrupting the read.

Purchase Foundations. The brief asks whether the post-purchase moment feels utilitarian or generous, the Academy answer is generous: a warm welcome note, not just a receipt. One screen, minimal fields, the order summary stating one-year access plainly, renewed at a reduced rate as the programs update.

LEARNER SEES
Email, payment, order summary. Confirmation lands on the first lesson, not a generic "thank you" page.
EMAIL FIRES
Welcome & receipt, receipt, first-lesson link, a real welcome note in the brand voice.
DECISION BWhen does account creation happen?

The brief lists "account creation, payment, confirmation" but not the order. It shapes friction at the highest-converting moment.

B1✓ CHOSEN
Email + pay, account after
Lowest friction. Capture email, take payment, set a password on the confirmation step.
B2
Account before payment
Full account first, then pay. More friction, cleaner data, easier abandoned-cart recovery.
B3
Magic-link, no password
Passwordless. Pay, then access via emailed link. Modern and low-friction; some find it unfamiliar.

First lesson · enrolled

First lesson, first time. Onboarding lives inside the lesson, not before it, no tutorial overlay, no welcome wizard. The lesson teaches its own use: the reading flows, the practice task invites a first attempt, and the learner is already practicing within two minutes.

LEARNER SEES
Lesson 1, a slim progress bar, the first practice task. No friction between them and the material.

Practice & return

↺ Most-used state

The dominant pattern of a self-paced program: learners disappear and come back. The resume state is the most-used screen in the product, so it gets real care. It re-grounds the returning learner with the last lesson's essence, their own reflection from last time, and one generous "continue" affordance, no guilt about the gap.

EXIT ↘ / RE-ENTRY ↗
Both drawn: leaving mid-module, and returning after 8 days to a warm, oriented resume card.
EMAIL FIRES
Comeback note at 14 days idle, one thoughtful email, then nothing.

Reflect on fluency

Dashboard moment

Progress reflected back as growing capability, not a percent-complete bar. The fluency tracker measures moves practiced across contexts: "You have practiced Constrain in four contexts this week," not "42% complete." This is the Academy's answer to every other LMS.

LEARNER SEES
Each move as not-yet / just begun / forming / practiced, the instrument, not a progress bar.
DETAIL → D4
The tracker as a real instrument, lived at day 1 / 30 / 90, is Deliverable 04.
DECISION POINT · OPTIONAL BRANCH Learner decides they want to sit the independent exam.
aifluency.academy / prepare-to-certify
READINESS CHECK
Thinking about the exam?
You've completed 4 of 6 modules. Most candidates who pass the independent exam have completed all six.
The Applied AI Institute
A separate organization. We taught the method. We do not grade the exam.
Continue to the Institute ↗
07

Prepare for certification

Optional ↗ The bridge

The one moment the Academy hands a learner to a separate organization. The Academy designs its side only: an honest readiness check and a clean link out. Critically, the Institute is named explicitly and styled distinctly in indigo, two organizations, one careful handoff, never one product with two skins.

Firewall made visible. "We taught the method. We do not grade the exam." The full three-screen bridge (readiness, handoff page, return-after-exam) is Deliverable 05.
LEAVES ACADEMY ↗
Departs to the Institute (out of scope here). Later returns, see the re-entry below.
DECISION CAccess lapse policy

Shapes the lapsed-access screen. Round 1 marketing copy implies lifetime.

C1 · Lifetime
Buy once, keep forever. No lapse screen needed except for refund/chargeback. Matches the copy.
C2 · Annual access✓ CHOSEN
$59 first year, renews at ~$29/yr (half rate) since the programs keep updating through the year. Needs a lapsed state + renew path.
DECISION DPost-exam self-report

When a learner returns after the exam, does the Academy ask how it went? A privacy call, the Academy never sees Institute results.

D1 · Optional, opt-in
"How was the exam?" with a skippable field. Voluntary, clearly self-reported, never required.
D2 · Don't ask✓ CHOSEN
Welcome them back, collect nothing. Strongest firewall posture, the Academy never even asks about Institute outcomes.
RE-ENTRY ↗ Learner returns after sitting the exam elsewhere, and/or finishes the remaining modules.
aifluency.academy / foundations / complete
You have completed Foundations.
All five moves, practiced across the full method. The Academy is yours to revisit any time.
WHEN YOU'RE READY, OPTIONAL
Consider the independent certification at the Applied AI Institute.
08

Complete & renew

Graduation

A celebratory close that does not feel like an upsell. Foundations ends on a real moment, the open-book mark, an honest "you have completed Foundations," and the dashboard quietly becoming a study companion rather than a graveyard. The optional Institute path is mentioned without pressure. Access is annual (C2): a renewal reminder arrives before lapse, at the reduced rate since the programs keep updating.

EMAIL FIRES
Program complete, quietly congratulatory, honest mention of the optional cert path.
AFTER → D3 / D4
The Capstone (D3) precedes this close; the day-90 companion dashboard is D4.
